Default Scanner Codes For Jefferson County, WV

Went out this weekend and bought a 50 Channel Cobra Scanner. Can anyone provide the codes for the Jefferson County Sheriff / Police / WVSP / Fire & Rescue?

Also, does anyone still use the CB? (Remember that? "10-4 Good-Buddy!") Wonder if us Shannondale folks should resurrect that old low tech tool - maybe pick a channel for the mountain and then we'll be further in the know!!!

This is a list someone sent me just recently. At the bottom are the codes for the signals (so when the police say things like "I have a Signal 25 at Charles Town Races & Slots" nosy people like me can look it up.

Notes (IMHO): Not all codes are used by all agencies, and there may be inconsistencies between this list and the meaning of the code when it is used. Newly adopted EMS procedures require the use of 'plain English' rather than 10-codes and Signal codes; however, some codes are still used, and some personnel still use codes anyway. When 'plain English' is used, expect wide variations and confusing inconsistencies. Anyone can now say anything anyway they want to (?I?m direct? or just plain ?Direct? [which, I guess, is used in place of ?okay?, but which was designed to mean that redirected traffic was heard ?direct?ly from the originator when it was said the first time, keeping the originator from having to repeat the traffic], ?Arriving Jefferson? [used by some, but not all, when they are at the hospital], ?Go in service? [Originally, 10-8 was ?In Service?, used to indicate that a unit was responding to an incident, but somehow to go ?in service? means just the opposite), ?Headquarters: Medic 4? [used sometimes when medic 4 calls headquarters] as opposed to ?Headquarters to Medic 4? [when headquarters calls medic 4], etc.).

Actually you date us both with that archaic reference... But I will admit to having owned several of them back in the day. I used to have one in my VW Super Beetle. It was mounted right below the 8-track player. [8D]

The original SSP 2-way radio was CB and it actually worked some of the time up here. I have a box of them in the basement and would be willing to give them to folks who want local communications, i.e., within a mile or two. A couple are 4 watt portables and the others run on 12VDC.

Scanners: guaranteed to drive you bonkers if you try to monitor more than 5 or 6 active channels. I have another 6 programmed, but "scan" is off until there is a specific need. The Sky Watch freq (147.3000) is a Ham Net which is activated when there is severe weather in the area. It provides weather observations from Ham Mobile Units in the area. This one is not on "scan", but activated manually if weather warrants. I found it to be useful in the past.

Ain't that the truth. If my husband had his way, we'd have speakers for the scanner run to every room in the house. The one in the living room has a dozen or so channels programmed in and then he has one he wears on his hip that's just Jefferson County Fire/Rescue also. It was nerve wracking at first but curiosity got the better of me and I'm too nosy not to listen.
